Sustainability is an important part of what Sirane Flexibles - and indeed Sirane as a whole - offers. Sustainable packaging can mean different things to different people - what we will offer you is the most eco-friendly packaging solution available which will work for your product.
We offer paper-based barrier films, yes, but they won't work for every product, and we're aware of that. Not every product can be packaged in a plastic-free pack, and nor should it be.
We offer recyclable plastics - in our RePEat range - because we believe it's important to offer a recyclable plastic alternative. Yes, the UK recycling system isn't ideal for soft plastics - it relies on an effort by the consumers to make sure it is taken to a recycling centre - but by providing materials which are recyclable (and many consumers will make the effort) it all helps, and also helps put pressure on the government to sort out a coherent national recycling system.
Where we use paper - such as Earthpouch or Earthfilm - it's recyclable kerbside in the paper recycling stream, and is endorsed by the UK Recycling Association who have tested the material to make sure it is repulpable. It's also sourced only from sustainable paper supplies.
What also makes Sirane Flexibles different is our commitment to making the printing process as sustainable as possible. We offer two different print processes - flexo and digital offset - and in our flexo printing we use only water-based inks and water-based adhesives.
When setting up our flexible packaging facility (called Amethyst) we also looked at the environmental impact of our factory and decided to do some things different. Did you know there is no heating installed in the warehouse and factory at Amethyst? We can direct the heat from the equipment into or away from the factory. We also don't need a thermal oxidiser to deal with harmful Volatile Organic Compounds which you would normally find in a flexible packaging plant.
